Southwestern International Raceway Tucson, AZ May 5th, 2007 Friday, May 4th was an open Test and Tune night at SIR and in preparation for our Summit Racing Series Team Race #5 over 250 race cars came through the gate. The final on Saturday the 5th of May placed our high school 2006 double champion, Matt Hawk and current points leader in the winners circle once again for a double break-out win over Jeff Veek. Matt had a .090 reaction time and ran a 16.487 at 80.81 MPH on his 16.55 dial. Jeff dialed a 13.47 and ran a 13.332 at 100.76 MPH after a .105 light. Next, the super fast two wheelers took on the 1320. Craig Wood jumped up to the #2 spot in team points with the victory over Tom Patterson when Tom went red by .013. Craig’s GSXR dialed an 8.90 and had a .033 reaction, running a 9.030 at 146.43 MPH. Tom’s Kawasaki ran 137.69 MPH with a 9.325 ET on his 9.38 dial. The Sportsman final put first time finalist, Steve Russell in his ’68 El Camino in victory lane. Steve dialed a 13.40 and ran a 13.453 at 97.51 MPH after his .059 reaction time. Chris Stout was just a little late at the tree with a .123 reaction time. He ran a 12.796 on his 12.73 dial at 105.72 MPH for the runner-up spot. Pro once again took six tough rounds of competition for Larry Cannon to get the win. Larry took his purple ’70 Chevelle to a double break-out win over the ’85 Mustang of Brad Hawk. Larry dialed an 11.07 and he ran an 11.048 at 120.60 MPH on a great .007 light. Brad left with a .054 reaction time and ran further under his 10.92 dial with a 10.894 ET at 120.91 MPH. The recent Tucson transplant increased his Super Pro team points lead by winning his second team race in a row. Brian Fritz was five hundredths behind at the tree with a .024 light, but ran right on his 9.66 dial with a 6 at 132.45 MPH. Jay Axtell had a better reaction with a .019, but was a little off his 8.04 dial with an 8.110 at 158.69 MPH. The next race at SIR is on May 12th and is our ¼ Mile Shoot-out and Top Comp.
