The second half of the 2007 Team SIR season got under way Saturday, June 23rd with temperatures in the 120 degree range. The first half ended with Team race #6 with the first and second place spots in each category securing their places for the Race of Champions and a trip to Las Vegas for the E.T. Finals. The High School champ from last year as well as the first half leader, Matt Hawk from CDO High School continued his winning ways. In the final Matt got the win as Eric Lundvall representing Pueblo High School, went way under his dial trying to catch Matt at the finish line. Eric had a .120 light and dialed a 15.60 and ran a 15.458 at 90.77 MPH in his ’69 Mustang. Matt had a beautiful .005 reaction time and ran only eight thousandths under his dial of 16.67 at 81.72 MPH.

The Motorcycle final was a hole shot victory for Jim Burris, Jr. and his 2002 GSXR over Matt Mitchell’s ’83 Honda. Burris dialed a 10.00 and ran a 10.058 at 129.05 MPH after the .075 reaction time. Matt was a little late with the .115 reaction time and ran an 11.007 on the 10.88 dial at 116.62 MPH.

The two time sportsman SIR Champion once again was in a final round as the veteran, Don Graham, faced Jesse Milburn who was in his first final round appearance. Jesse left four hundredths at the tree and was a little off his 17.24 dial with a 17.427 at 81.12 MPH to give Do’s blue Maverick another mark in the win column. Don had a .122 light and dialed a 13.12 and ran a 13.290 at 80.10 MPH.

The always tough Pro category saw the ’85 Mustang of Brad Hawk face Varner Cooke in his ’67 Camaro with almost identical reaction times. Both drivers were looking at the stripe and each other to see who would run close to their dial. The victory would go to Brad Hawk with a .77 reaction time he dialed a 10.89 and ran a 10.920 at 119.90 while Varner had a one thousandths better reaction time of .76, but was four hundredths off his 11.23 dial with an 11.274 at 122.20 MPH for the number two spot.

As the clock struck midnight, the Super Pro final pulled into the staging lanes. Don Toia in his ’33 Chevy Roadster stayed with his 8.34 dial from round two all the way to the final. Don took the number one spot with an 8.341 at 152.83 MPH over his friend and great racer, Chuck Hawk. Chuck tried to be the third Hawk family member in the victory circle for the night and had a beautiful .004 reaction time, but was a little off his 7.59 dial with a 7.645 at 170.60 MPH for runner-up.

The next race at SIR is Friday, June 29th and is our Sports Compact and Street Legal Midnight Madness race. Gates are at 7 PM.
