Southwestern International Raceway SIR’s Team and High School race #10 was contested on Saturday, Aug. 18th, 2007. In addition to the team race, a Box / No Box Conci race was also run. The High School was again the first final to be in the staging lanes. The race was over at the tree when Matt Ballard from Mountain View High School took on Brittnee Toia from CDO High. Matt had a .101 red and ran a 13.906 at 92.56 MPH on his 13.50 dial. Brittnee took the free time run to a 15.607 at 90.07 MPH on her 15.48 dial and a .189 reaction time. The Motorcycle final went to first time event winner, Chet Berry when Jim Burris, Jr. also went red at the tree. Jim’s GSXR1000 had a -.082 reaction and coasted to a 12.015 at 88.50 MPH on the 10.18 dial. Chet’s GSXR750 left with a nice .051 light and still ran an 11.441 at 115.34 MPH on his 11.36 dial looking at the win light on his score board. The classic Ford – Chevy battle took place in the Pro final. Brett Moffat’s beautiful ’69 Camaro won by the lens of the headlights. Brett dialed a 9.62 and with a .042 reaction time ran a 9.667 at 127.14 MPH. Brad Hawk in his ’89 Mustang had a quicker .038 light, but was just a little further off his 11.00 dial with an 11.072 ET at 123.23 MPH for the runner-up spot. The Super Pro final was again decided by a red light start. This time, Chuck Hawk, Jr. in his Ford powered dragster left -.003 too early and also coasted to a 7.924 on his 7.66 dial at 147.18 MPH while Jerry Duffy took his Mopar powered dragster to the victory with a .036 reaction time on his 7.61 dial and run of 7.632 at 175.73 MPH. The Sportsman points leader was once again in the final round, unfortunately for Hank Axtell the double breakout win went to the always tough Chris Dann and his ’91 Mustang. Chris broke-out less when he dialed a 12.60 on a .047 light and ran a 12.521 at 108.66 MPH. Hank in his ’79 El Camino was further under his 12.40 dial with a 12.294 at 109.50 MPH after his .064 reaction time. The Box Conci race was another double break-out affair. Jon Bradford went under by only 4 thousandths for the number one spot while Don Toia went under by almost two hundredths. Jon had a four thousandths lead at the tree, with a .024 reaction time to Don’s .028. Jon dialed a 7.55 and ran a 7.546 at 175.52 MPH in his rear engine dragster. Don Toia took the runner-up spot in his ’33 Chevy roadster with an 8.42 dial and a run of 8.402 at 153.88 MPH. Jeff Stout had a hole shot victory in the No Box Conci. Jeff’s ’73 Nova had a .082 light to Jeff Morgan’s .136 light. Stout dialed a 12.34 and ran a 12.356 at 108.28 MPH. Morgan dialed an 11.50 and ran an 11.508 at 111.59 MPH for the number two spot. Our next race will be Aug 31st and is an Open Test and Tune with gates at 4 PM. Sept. 1st we will feature Team race # 11 with gates also at 4 PM.
